A NOTE TO POLICE OFFICERS, SAR GROUPS
AND OTHERS LOOKING FOR WORKING MALINOIS:

Many police officers/trainers/SAR groups approach Malinois rescue looking for young dogs to train. Most of our rescued dogs are not suitable for these types of jobs. Some of our rescued Malinois are actually dogs that have been rejected by police departments due to their inability to do the job. While we are not opposed to adopting dogs out as working dogs, we adopt only to individuals, never to organizations or police departments. Most of our rescued Malinois have had difficult beginnings in life. The majority will make fantastic family pets, but most of them do not have the temperament needed to work day after day with a police officer or in search and rescue. All dogs adopted through Malinois rescue will be spayed or neutered prior to placement.

Rosie is great with doggie-wise children because she gets so excited.

Rosie, approximately 4 year old spayed female in Tulsa, OK. Rosie was found in the Oklahoma City shelter. We don't have any background on her because she was a stray.

Rosie loves people and has not met a stranger. She is great with children but would be best with children that have dog experience because she does get excited. Rosie is also great with other dogs, big or small. Her foster home has several other dogs including a miniature schnauzer and she is best buddies with him. She can be dominate with other females but she is not a bully and if introduced properly, she is happy to hang out with the pack and fit in anywhere.

Rosie is up to date on all her shots, on monthly heartworm medication and Frontline. She has beautiful teeth but has some graying around her muzzle. Rosie does not have any obedience training but her foster dad is working on basic training with her.

She is very well behaved in the house, house trained and not destructive at all. Rosie sleeps loose but is also crate trained. Rosie is not a fence jumper but if you don't have a solid fence, she will push through a hole or a gap to go for a walk on her own. Rosie would make a great companion.

Tommy is a very sweet, high energy

He is crate trained, up to date on vaccinations, treated for heartworms and on prevention. Tommy needs an experienced home where he can flourish and become the best dog he can be. Tommy Boy loves riding in his crate when we go for a drive. He is very food motivated and I believe he will enjoy obedience training and tracking. Tommy gets along well with other dogs. Tommy is quite intelligent, very affectionate and would make a great addition to a family with older children.

I feel Zena will make a great pet for possibly a single female or elderly couple.

Zena is approximately 18 months old being fostered in St. Louis, MO area. Zena was rescued in Kansas out of a shelter; she has been spayed and up to date on all shots. She was thought to have spent most of her life outside. Since March 2, she has been inside the house and has only had 2 accidents.

Zena does not have a lot of toy drive but you do have to watch your soft fuzzy slippers because she will chew on them. She does like Nylabones to carry around but as of yet has not started chewing on them. Zena is food motivated and we are working on basic commands as far as I can tell she has had no prior training.

Zena can be shy and when things get busy in the house, if her crate door is left open, she will sit in it until she feels comfortable and comes out. She always comes out of her crate. She is very curious about everything even at a distance.

Zena gets along great with my other dogs, they have become great playmates. She is submissive but will stand her ground when needed. I have not had her with any cats. She is very intense on chasing squirrels up the trees in my backyard.

She is more timid around my 14 yr old son. If he sits on the ground she loves to play with him, he works with her daily and she is responding to him. She loves to follow you from room to room, and when you sit down she wants to put her head in your lap to be petted or she tries to climb up in your lap. If Zena would be allowed she would also prefer to climb up in bed with you or curl up beside the bed by you. She also loves to curl up by your feet if you are at the table or desk, etc., she wants to keep close contact with you. She is a very sweet, quiet dog.

We are using a crate with Zena she does tolerate it but will let you know if she thinks she has been in it long enough. She does not bark in her crate she will simply paw the door, which she can get carried away with.

Update: 4-10-08 Zena has come out of her shell and does exhibit the ability to want to play, not with toys but with her person friend. She can show that she has an independent streak when it comes to working on her basic commands but she will always give in and loves the human verbal rewards with treats.
