Belgian Malinois in Need of a Foster Home

WE NEED QUALIFIED FOSTER HOMES!! Fill out the foster app found on our main page under "the process".

The following dogs are waiting to be placed in an ABMC approved foster home so that vetting can be done and we have the time to evaluate them for approriate placement.

Boarding fees have hit us hard this year and have caused us to slow down on intake of rescue dogs. If you are interested in contributing to our boarding needs there is a link to Network for Good on our main page http://partners.guidestar.org/controller/searchResults.gs?action_donateReport=1&partner=networkforgood&ein=81-6099454

COOPER - 3 or 4 year old Awesome Boy - FL

Cooper is a happy, content, playful 3 or 4 year old and has a great personality.  He doesn’t have much of a prey drive or ball drive and is definitely a family dog.  He enjoys people, interaction and attention.  He is kennel trained (however we haven’t used the kennel in over a year).  Needs room to run and is always on alert.  His current family is unable to provide the time that he would like to have to be a happy boy.He would love to have other dogs to play with, and people that would spend a lot of time with him.  He does very well with older kids like 4 years old and older.  He walks on a leash well and is overall a good dog.

Please consider Cooper! Contact Sara: flynnkramer@aol.com.

Brava - northern Florida I have been waiting FOR A LONG TIME! Please give me a home!
Brava Brava
Brava Brava

BRAVA – 7 year old female, spayed, UTD on all shots, on HW preventative and Frontline Plus. She was surrendered to rescue by a hoarder who had over 100 dogs! Brava and her sister, Electra, lived in airline crates from 8 weeks of age until last July! Brava showed lots of desire to please right of the bat, and has learned that people can be fun, as can going new places in the car. She crates beautifully, never fusses about having her nails done, never fouls her kennel, and I’d bet she would be super easy to house break. She does like to chase a ball, but as yet won’t bring it back. Happy girl, and is a good watchdog, too. Brava is good with other dogs of all sizes and breeds, not sure about cats. She should not be with horses or other large animals. She has been walked and groomed by 8- and 10-year-old girls, and is kissy with them. Wouldn’t recommend smaller kids due to her exuberance. Brava knows how to walk on a loose lead, sit, down, wait and come. She is okay off leash if she knows the environment, and will rip and run laps around the yard, grinning like only a Mal can! She is in dire need of a foster or adoptive home, and is in danger of being put down very soon if we can’t find a placement for her!! Please open your heart and home and give this sweet girl a chance to live out her life in a forever home!

Contact Sara: flynnkramer@aol.com for more information.

Electra - northern Florida I too have been waiting TOO LONG. Please give me a home!
Electra Electra
Electra Electra

UPDATE!! – Electra was surrendered last July with her sister Brava. Both lived in airline crates and were never socialized to environment or people. Likes other dogs, is playful with other Mals, not sure about cats. Electra is a bit less bold than Brava, and takes some time to accept new people and places. Once she settles, though, she is a love bug and wants nothing more than to cuddle up with somebody. She’s spayed, UTD, HW neg. and on prevention, and on Frontline Plus. Electra is a “blue” Malinois, and has the most beautiful coat and masking, but her color doesn’t show up well in her photos. She has learned that car rides are fun, and if a car door is left open loads up even if she’s not going somewhere <g>. She would be good with older kids, but the young ones are too quick and noisy for her taste. She cannot go to a home with horses! Electra is polite on and off leash, knows to wait at doors, sit, down (most of the time), and loves to be brushed and groomed! She is in danger of being euthanized if we can’t find a foster or permanent home for her!! Please don’t let this lovely girl who had such a horrid start to life miss out on an opportunity to know that people aren’t all bad, and that she can live out the rest of her life in a safe, loving home. She would do fine as an only dog.

Holly
Holly Holly
Holly, about 1 year old, picked up as a stray, we pulled her from the sheleter. I am looking for a new foster home for Holly. The ideal home would have somebody home a good bit of the time. Holly will be stressed if crated too long and when stressed she will spin and foul in her crate. Please contact Dar: dvhauser@gmail.com

Soldier
Soldier Soldier
Soldier

History (from owner's sister)

Soldier was 3 months old when he got him. He just turned 3 years old. Date of birth: 12/10/2008
Soldier is neutered. He is up to date with shots and all vet appointments.

Soldier was purchased to be a companion dog for his owner who is legally blind. Soldier has not been socialized outside the home and is kept separated from the small dog and 2 cats.. Because the owner cannot see he has been terrified to have Solider around other animals. He has always been afraid that if anything bad were about to happen he wouldn't be able to see and prevent it. So he has just kept him away. But I can see... and when Soldier sees the other pets through the gate, it's like he gets this big smile on his face and hops around like he wants to play with them. I tell him that but he thinks  Soldier would eat them! : ) He says he has a prey drive. The owner realizes he can not meet Soldiers needs and would like to see him placed in an appropriate home.

He is good around people. He has been around 4 adults his whole life so far. And a few friends that come by. He has been around my  daughter (10 years old) quite a bit over the past 3 years. He does well around her. Other than that, he doesn't get out much. Just in the back yard to go potty.

No other information is available except the Humane Society staff claims that she has not shown any dog aggression.  If interested in fosterering Lita please contact Dar Hauser (dvhauser@gmail.com). Bo
Bo Bo

Bo is a big lump of sugar!!  He was quite skinny when we first got him but he has filled out nicely.  He knows several commands including sit, wait (for food), and down.  He often comes when called but will jump out of reach if you startle him by reaching for his collar too quickly.  He is scared of loud noises and quick movements so he will need someone calm and patient to help him really thrive.  He gets along well with the dog he lives with, he can be a bit obnoxious at times (he IS technically a teenager…) but for the most part they are the best of friends.  He barks at strange dogs on occasion but more because he is trying to convince them (and himself) that he is big and strong.  If he goes to a house with other dogs he just needs to know that someone is in charge and it is not him.  He would do fine with a dominant dog, or in a house where he is the only dog.  He is fine with older children as long as they understand that they have to be careful not to scare him, children under 5 might be too much for him to handle.  He has gotten much better with the cat, he doesn’t chase her and he is not aggressive toward her.  Our home is set up so the cat can get away from the dogs so it may be an adjustment for him to be around a cat all the time, but he hasn’t shown much interest in the cat besides curiosity.

He has a good ball drive, it just takes a little convincing to get him to give you the ball back so you can throw it again.  He walks pretty well on a leash and would probably love a home where he could go for frequent walks.  He is not a very high energy dog, he can keep up with an activity for a while but he certainly isn’t demanding when you say play time is done.  He loves nothing more than to come running over, lean against your legs and look up at you with those big brown eyes….. you just can’t help but melt.

What Bo needs most is socialization with people.  He obviously was not socialized as a puppy and where we live he has very little chance to interact with people so he has not improved at all in the time we’ve had him.  If we take him out somewhere where there are people he mostly hides and shakes, it’s very difficult to get him to interact.  We have introduced him to a few people at the park and he tends to escalate throughout the encounter until he gets to the point of nipping (usually from behind – he really is just afraid).  Our biggest concern is that if he does not learn to be more accepting of new people that he will never be adoptable and we would hate to see that happen.  He really is a wonderful dog and just needs someone calm with good socialization skills to help him come out of his shell.

Magic
Magic Magic

Magic was born around January of 2005. He is a big boy that likes a lot of attention. His previous owner says he likes other dogs, cats, livestock and really any animal. We have also learned that he is house trained, rides well in a car and knows obedience commands.

He shows no aggression toward his food and is very gentle with taking treats. He doesn't tear up any of his toys or bedding. He is very housebroken and doesn't want to mess in his run. They have taken his kuranda bed out and put an extra large airline crate in his run. He goes into it for security but just  like his bed, he is constantly getting up because of any commotion in the shelter. He is very obedient and easy to walk. He went on another long hike yesterday, but I think that shorter walks or hikes would be plenty ample for his exercise needs.

He really needs a companion. He wants to be close with someone. I believe he was truly a house dog, walked on a leash and got a lot of attention.
I think he has had obedience training with German commands  and nothing else. I see no signs of any tracking or scent work. He is a piece of cake to walk. Almost anyone could walk him. I don't know all the requirements for a therapy dog, but just guessing, I think he would be a potential candidate. He would be perfect  to stand alongside a hospital bed . He would stand patiently to be petted and with his obedience, he could go anywhere.
So far, he has gotten a long with every dog they have introduced him to.

Spayed/Neutered • Up-to-date with routine shots • House trained • Primary color: Black • Coat length: Medium

Lola - NC, 6-7 yo spayed malinois.  Lola is a total love bug and cuddler!  She was rescued off of a farm but has great house manners and is housebroken.  Lola does well on a leash and is fine with children.  Apparently she was originally trained to be some type of service dog but the owner had to give her up and she was taken to the farm.  She sounds like a great dog for a first time malinois owner!! Contact Marcia : mhcil@aol.com for more information.

Cadence Cadence

Cadence is a 5 year old female that acts 100% puppy. She is very affectionate and wants to be around people all the time! She loves to just stand beside you and nuzzle your hand, but she is also very active and has a high energy level! She will play for hours with any dog up for the task and never seems to tire. Cadence will easily go in and out of her crate or a kennel, but you will need a 6 ft fence as she seems to think anything short of that isn't a barrier. She is not house broken, but will not go inside if taken out at regular intervals. (Make sure she goes though or otherwise she just uses her time outside as a play session!) She has quickly learned that she must sit and wait for her food, but due to time constraints she has not had any other instruction. Cadence is HW+ and will need to undergo treatments, but because she is so good in a crate, this should not be an issue. She does have a fear of thunderstorms, but we have found that putting a blanket over the front of the crate and a firm "no" with any scratching will stop any bad behavior that results. She is not destructive and loves to play fetch with her kong! She would do wonderfully as an agility dog because she is so nimble and smart. We have managed to add some weight to her slender frame, but she could still probably gain a few pounds for good measure . . .she's just so active that it's not hard for her to keep her slim figure! She would be great for a home with other active and playful dogs and older children (younger may be an issue due to her energy level). She has not been exposed to cats or livestock.

Contact Paula: lentzliebe@yahoo.com. Donations for her heartworm treatment and boarding would be greatly appreciated.
