Photos & Updates on Storm from the Baltimore Rescue

Storm has been ADOPTED! 11/09/07

Our sincere Thanks! and Malinois Hugs go out to each and every person that responded to this Emergency Rescue. While many people offered sponsorship of the dogs, others indicated that their donation should provide food or be applied where needed. We have foster homes for all but three of them and the first five are either in their foster home as of last night, 4/14/07, or will arrive shortly.

The Rescue Volunteers have dubbed them *The Dirty Dozen*, however the first ones to move out of the kennel are reported, by transporters and fosters, to be typical Malinois choosing to stay clean when provided an opportunity to eliminate outside. Yipppeeee!!!!! Let's hope that trend continues!

Storm is now listed as available for Adoption

Storm's Foster Home 5/08/07

It has been about 3.5 weeks since Storm came to our house. We have been slowly and methodically introducing her and allowing her to intermingle with Trixie and Maya. It seems like each day she is doing better and getting more comfortable with life outside of the "squalor" she has only known.

She has been eating well and steadily putting on some muscle. Her ribs and hip joints are much more difficult to see than when she arrived. She still runs like a dweeb. She seems like a puppy trapped in an adult dog's body. She and Trixie seem to be doing reasonably well together. They have had the most time to interact. The first day was actually better than subsequent days. Trixie is showing just how submissive she is. She has been significantly subdued in Storm's presence. Storm is also submissive but not as much as Trixie. As the days go by Trixie has been playing more and more outside with Storm there and frequently chasing the ball too!

Otherwise they seem to ignore each other. I suspect that Storm is doing a lot of mimicking what Trixie does as she learns how to play etc. Her introduction to Maya the baby Chessie started out a little more rough, no significant issues but I think we were more tentative. They have been doing some playing out in the yard and Storm seems to play rough which stands to reason since she is an adult dog learning how to play. Maya seems to enjoy much more than we do! We still find it disconcerting to watch an adult Mal put a Chessie puppy's head in her mouth!

Storm is not housebroken as we have not been able to fully assimilate her into the normal day to day doggie operations here. Some of which is due to her kitty interactions. These have not been bad, just a matter of trust. Storm has also shown some indications of other dog food aggression but this may have been due to the specific circumstances.

All in all she seems to being well and continually rebuilding her body day by day. She will be getting spayed tomorrow.

Her current weight is approx. 45 lbs. which is up from 39 lbs when she first arrived here!

I thought we should give everyone a good news update on Storm. Yesterday was a really good day. She has been very happy to see us and has given me kisses several times.

Storm is eating well and so far we haven't heard her utter a sound yet.

We take her out on walks around the yard frequently to get her out since we have no idea how much of the outside world she has ever seen.

So Amongst potty breaks for the baby girl chessie I took her out inside the fenced area yesterday and let her off leash. She did a lot of exploring and actually broke into a "newborn" colt type gallop!

Later we introduced her to Trixie. They did great together. We would throw the ball for Trixie, and Storm would chase after it as well. I don't think she knows what do do with it yet but she will get it!

Storm's Foster Home 4/15/07

Storm has been spayed and was picked up directly from the kennel by her foster home.

I am fostering Storm, from the Baltimore mals. I just picked her up from the kennel yesterday, and she is sooo skinny. I took her to the vets today due to concerns over her weight loss. She is only 39.1 lbs. No signs of worms, including heartworm. They want me to monitor her closely and if she doesn't start to put on some weight soon they will do a full blood work up on her. I am feeding her twice a day, once before I go to work and once after.

Storm is staying in the kennel we have in our basement until introductions to the resident dogs and cats can begin. She is eating great, and seems happy to see us. Tomorrow I might start introducing her to the rest of the clan, Trixie, our five year old adopted Malinois, first.
