Lackland Military Working Dog Adoption Program
Saber, 2 yr old, neutered male - CO
Saber is an energetic male who has a very friendly disposition towards people.
Saber is an energetic, two year old neutered male who
has a very friendly disposition towards people. He has a small, lean
build. Saber has a high prey drive and will quickly chase whatever
animal is running from him. He needs some work with his dog social
skills because his play can quickly become too rough for other
dogs. He does not like going to the vet or having his nails trimmed.
His original owners left him alone in the backyard or crated in the
garage for long periods of time and as a consequence, Saber began to
do a lot of barking . A neighbor's child came into the backyard
unsupervised and uninvited and began playing with him. In the play
Saber nipped the child. This event in addition to the barking
prompted the original owners to put him in foster care. Saber was
with me for about a month before I was able to place him in another
home. He was in this home for about 9 months and then his new owner
moved into an apartment in another city. Saber was left indoors
during the work day (9 - 10 hours). As a result of being left
unsupervised for such long periods of time, he began to relieve
himself indoors and started destructive chewing of about anything
within reach.
Since coming back to his foster home Saber has not done any chewing or
relieving himself indoors. His dog social skills are improving with
my other three dogs (two malinois and a golden) but he needs to be
reminded if his play is getting too rough. He is very inquisitive
about the cat, but so far has not chased her -- he has learned quickly
about the indoor "Invisible Fence" which has made him cautious of her
whether she is within the Fence's boundary or not. He exhibits some
insecurity when I am out of sight by whining, barking or pacing, but
this behavior has begun to decrease. He loves to be petted.
He is responding well to clicker training for obedience and agility work.
Emphasis so far has been for heeling, come, sit, down and "leave it". I have
been working him on unsteady surfaces and have him climbing simple ladder
problems. He is not strongly driven for toys, but works well for hot
dog tidbits and praise. He shows a lot of interest in "critter"
scent, but I have been working with him to decrease this behavior.
Saber's new home should be one where his new
owner will continue with his training and allow him to be a large
part of his human's life. I do not recommend a home with very young
children since their activity and noisiness will incite his prey drive.
For more information on Saber, please contact: Ellen.

Ajax, 4 - 5 month old mostly Malinois, neutered male, NY
Ajax was put in a dumpster by his 'breeder' as he has a condition (manageable) called megaesophagus.
He was rescued by an angel who arranged for him to have surgery to help his condition. Ajax is energetic and healthy. However, he must be fed 3 small meals a day and pureeing or putting the food in a blender helps him keep it down. He is very sweet and great with kids and other dogs. His foster mom is a dog trainer so he is already housebroken and crate trained. She is now working with him on basic obedience. If Ajax is adopted locally, Westchester, Putnam or Fairfield counties, he will have access to free training and free vet care for his lifetime!!!!
For more information on Ajax, please Call: Lorraine at 845-225-6807
or contact Marcia.

Annie, 8-10 yr old, spayed female, Coastal NC
Annie is listed as a GSD but is definitely a Malinois!!!
Annie is a 'good old dog', who was found one morning by the staff of an animal shelter—she had been put over the fence late at night, and was close to whelping puppies. Luckily, a rescue group was found for her, and in only a few days Annie had 13 puppies! The puppies are all placed now, and this great dog 'Mom' is looking for her forever home.
Annie's now in great health and up to date on all vaccinations. Her heartworm treatment went well, and she was spayed in July. When she was rescued, she was very thin, but now weighs about 47 pounds. Annie is a fine house dog: she is perfectly housetrained; she has never had an 'accident' in the house. She is working on her basic obedience and knows 'come,' 'sit,' 'down' and 'stay,' but not perfectly. Annie's new family should be willing to work with her on her obedience skills. Learning to play with toys would also benefit Annie. She enjoys being hand-fed as a special treat, and shows no signs of food aggression. Annie very seldom barks, even when there is a knock at the door. She is wonderful on a leash and always walks on a loose lead.
Annie enjoys occasional car rides, and doing errands in dog-friendly stores. She makes friends wherever she goes! She also likes some vigorous activity every day and can RUN really fast. Rolling in the grass and my daily walks are special times for her. After exercising, she is a real couch potato, and such a happy dog that even when sleeping, there is a big grin on her face!
Annie's new family includes someone who can spend time with her during the day. She is able to stay alone in an outdoor run or indoors for several hours, but prefers not to be alone all day. She is an extremely gentle dog. Annie really enjoys older children., and gets along with all ages. Annie would be a great dog for a retired person or couple, or someone else who spends time at home. She would also do fine accompanying her owner to a dog-friendly workplace. In a previous foster home, she was kenneled for long periods of time, and now requires a larger enclosure to be comfortable. Anti-anxiety medication is appropriate for Annie in situations that make her nervous: severe thunderstorms and fireworks or gunfire. She doesn't enjoy dog parks and 'jumpy' or overly frisky younger dogs. Annie has been living in a home with cats, and only occasionally shows interest in them if they run near her. Still, it would be best if she were in a cat-free home. Annie does get along with most dogs, and prefers a small group—she currently stays at a 'bed and biscuit' kennel when her foster Mom travels and participates willingly in small group playtimes.
Annie has already had one long-term foster placement, but she was too sedate to suit the young family and their active dog. She is more energetic now that her heartworm treatment is complete, but is still a very 'laid-back' dog.
For more information on Annie, please contact: Donna or call 910-632-8654 or (cell) 704-576-3186.

Belle, 4.5 - 5 yr old, spayed female, OK
Belle is good with children and never aggressive
Belle is house broken, but she is slightly incontinent, she leaks a little, but does not completely lose it. My vet said this could be corrected with meds, but I have not tried it. She is good with children and never aggressive. She has been apprehensive and barked at strange males, but never anything I would consider aggressive. She is good with cats as long as they like dogs. With other dogs she tends to be the boss, and as long as she is the boss everything is ok. Our male malinois (Riley) is pretty much the boss and she accepts that, but with other females she has to be top dog. She is very guarded with food, but eats it quickly so there is no problem, in guarded I mean with other dogs, she has never shown aggression towards a person. She is leash trained, and pulls very little, but responds to a tug to back off, she sits well, shakes, and will come when called, if whe is out in the pasture she does not come as well, but in the house or yard she listens well. She will play great, and does have plenty of energy, but will settle down very quickly. I also had her catching frisbees, but haven't been working on it lately she would pick it up quick again though. She will also fetch, but she doesn't always come straight back, but close. She is really a special dog with a lot of love. She doesn't care to be pined over a lot, and can lay in the corner of the room in her own world, but does like to sit near you if you are on the floor with her and get her belly rubbed. She also like to swim in the pond. She would do best in a home with other playful dogs, but would need to be supervised while they adjust, and she would also be good a single dog as long as the owner gave her lots of love.
For more information on Belle, please contact: Rockford. My cell # is 405-880-2171. I can be called 24 hours a day. Leave a message if the phone is off.

Biz, 1.5 yo, neutered male, NC
Biz is a very loving energetic boy
Biz as he is called for short is a very loving energetic boy. He gets along with other dogs and the three cats here.
Biz has had some obedience training and very much wants to please. He is self confident and loves being around people.
He enjoys running and playing with toys. Biz is house trained and even though he loves to go out and play he is good while in the house and does his business outside.
He has been with us since my daughter went into the Marines but he needs a fenced in yard to play in and we don't have that for him here.
It is with sadness that we are placing him because he is a joy to be around.
For more information on Biz, please contact: Janit.

Clancy, 22 mo old, neutered male, OH
Clancy is not good with cats, but is extremely dog friendly
he has not been around children much so it is hard for me to judge exactly how he would be but i think he would be fine with older children. he has been to a professional k9 training facility, he knows on and off leash commands, placemat command, he heels beautifully etc. clancy is a little shy with new people but warms up quickly, and is such a love bug with his people. he is very protective (a great guard dog), and would make a terrific agility dog or partner to a trainer. he definitely needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation. he is exceptionally intelligent, loving, devoted and beautiful.

Coyote, 11 mo old, spayed female - Dallas, TX
Coyote was rescued from the LBJ Grasslands (thousands and thousands of acres of NOTHING)
Coyote is a Malinois or Malinois mix perhaps that was rescued from the LBJ Grasslands (thousands and thousands of acres of NOTHING). She was starving and scared, but my best friend, a veterinarian, loaded her up and brought her home after finishing her trail ride. She was unable to keep her as she has 10 corgi's of her own. I reluctantly agreed to let her live with me, which she has for the past 6 weeks, however, she has decided to try to be progressively more dominant over my Staffordshire which may soon find her in dire shape (hence, my reluctance at the beginning). I would much rather see her find a home where she can be top dog than to have to referee a loosing battle.
Coyote is about 11 months old and she has been spayed, she is also completely vaccinated (rabies, DA2PPC, Bordetella). She is heartworm negative and on preventative. She has been dewormed for all intestinal parasites. She is even microchipped, and the chip is just waiting to be registered by her new owner. I would gladly send her with a supply of heartworm prevention and frontline as well.
This dog is a sweetheart. She loves to play. LOVES to run. Just loves the companionship of humans in general. she is housebroken (though I do have a doggie door, so that is sort of cheating, but even when its closed at night or during the really cold days. No accidents). Coyote's only downfall is she is a chewer. Though I think much of that could be attributed to the long hours I work. She sleeps in the bed, and though she isnt a snuggler, she does like to tuck her nose under the covers. She is definitely personality plus I've attached a few pictures. Hopefully, you are the right home for this girl. A home where she can get the attention she wants and really deserves.
For more information on Coyote, please contact: Joanne or call 214-502-8574 .

Fly, 10 yr old, spayed female, Knoxville,TN
Fly is a sweet and driven dog.
Fly is a sweet and driven dog. She's Shutzhund trained, and for the first six or seven years of her life, she was well taken care of and worked almost daily. I've been fostering her for three years while my father was out of the country, and now it seems that he'll be unable in any foreseeable future to care for her. So I'm looking for someone interested in working her and giving her a good, purpose-driven home.
She's been well behaved around the other dogs that I've introduced her to, and she's been fine around other people. I've never had her around cats, so I don't know how she would react.
Fly's not been worked in three years, but this would be a perfect dog for someone interested in learning the sport of Schutzhund. With a little reminding, she would pick back up where she left off in no time, and the beginner could learn easily the motions of the sport. She is housebroken, and she sits, lays, stays, fetches (for as long as you can launch a ball), swims, and barks on command.
This is a dog that needs a purpose. She's high-energy and eager to please. For more information on Fly, please contact: Ben or call 865-386-4466.

Goldie, 3.5 yr old spayed female, Mahopac, NY, Putnam County
I am now going through a divorce and I will not be able to have Goldie in my new home.
Goldie will be 4 in October, her name is Goldie and I rescued her as a puppy. I am now going through a divorce and I will not be able to have a pet in my new home. She is fully trained, very bright and loving. She know basic commands. She has been raised in our home with 2 children. My kids are now 11 & 7 so she does well with young kids too.
We have a fenced yard, but she loves long walks too! Goldie does have a medical condition called pancreatic enzyme deficiency, which requires her to be on meds for life. The medicine is mixed into her moistened food, it is a powder form, and the cost is aprox. $106.00 every 3 months. As a family we are devastated to have to give her up. We are hoping to find someone that truly loves this breed, and has room in their heart and home for a new pet. She is clean, well care for and loved, up to date on all vet care and shots. I have her complete vet records available. We live in Mahopac, New York, in Putnam County on the Westchester border.
For more information on Goldie, please contact: Tami.

Jacey, approx 5-6 yrs old, spayed female, TX
Jacey is a wonderful dog for a home without small children or cats.
Jacey is beautiful, obedient, house-trained, loyal, low maintenance and rides well in cars. She is content to lay in a doggie bed all day or go for a walk. She will match your energy and lead and do whatever you would like her to do. She is about 5-6 years old and is in excellent health. She is agile, coordinated and could probably be trained to do tricks. She is INCREDIBLY intelligent and is the best watch dog I have ever seen. In fact, she is one of the best dogs I have ever seen in many respects. She does not bark needlessly and will not bark back at neighborhood dogs that are making a racket. She only barks when she hears something to guard the home.
She doesn't chew as she knows when she's done something wrong and doesn't want to disappoint her owners. She likes to cuddle when she first sees you come home or from time to time during the day but she can be independent otherwise if need be. She will come whenever you call her but she is secure enough that she doesn't have to be under your feet 24/7, she can sit on her own and chew on a bone or just lay off on her own (she can pretty much be as cuddly or independent as you need). She is not hyper nor overly lethargic. Her energy level is perfect, alert when she needs to be (watching the house or if you want to take her for a walk or throw a ball) but otherwise she's content to lie down all day and doesn't have to be entertained.
On one hand she seems like an alpha dog and is protective. She didn't always like the other dogs in obedience school, particularly dominant females, but she tolerates a lot from our male Lab, including him sneaking her food and taking her toys. She really seems to mother him. Commands she knows are sit, stay, lie down (along with hand signals), she could be taught a lot more if someone was interested in working with her. She picks up on things quickly. She tends to pull on a leash but walks well with a gentle leader. She can be protective a little when she meets new people and so we always show her that they're ok and let her warm up to them. She's not crazy about someone running up to her and throwing their hands on top of her head. She got nervous one time when someone did this so we always ease her in to new people now. Everyone who meets her loves her and thinks she's a really neat dog. She can be shy at first but before long she will work her way right into your heart.
For more information on Jacey, please contact: Claire or call 817-590-9665.

Kohl, 8 yr old, neutered male - FL
Kohl has a great disposition towards people and other animals – he lives with two feline brothers – Oscar and Felix!
DOB: 3-25-2000
Kohl, a Belgian Malinois with a reddish-tan coat and black mask, lives in Miami with Avn and Kurt Sturm.
Kohl is a newly minted 8 year old who is neutered and has a tacking chip. He has had no health problems
and is current on all his treatments. Kohl is extremely youthful which we attribute to his daily exercise and
good diet – he eats dry food, vegetables and fruit. Most people think he is still a puppy. Kohl has a great
disposition towards people and other animals – he lives with two feline brothers – Oscar and Felix.
You might wonder why we are looking for a home for such a wonderful dog. As anyone familiar with
Belgian Malinois dogs know, they are very active and smart and need lots of attention and exercise. We are
about to make some moves and we are not able to give him the type of lifestyle that he needs.
Kohl accompanies us most everywhere and has his own place at the office. But, he needs to have plenty of
playtime and attention and that is hard for us to provide at the moment. Anyone wishing to adopt him needs
to know that he thrives on activity and affection and is very social with humans and most other dogs. We
have developed a relationship with Kohl over the last 6 years, but he is very adaptable and would be very
happy in any home that offers him love and activity.
He is well trained and knows the basics, but needs to be supervised. He likes his crates, we have three (home,
office and car), and floor mats. We would love to get him into a good environment as soon as possible.
For more information on Kohl, please contact: Avn and Kurt or call 305 666 4055.

Kyle is a friendly, calm, happy dog who is itching to get out and play.
Kyle is a male Malinois mix, estimated to be about 3 years old. He was dropped off at the Berkeley shelter on October 9 with no information. He is a bit skinny, but this is not unusual for a young male. His coat is rough in places, and not yet glossy, but should continue to improve steadily as he spends more time on an improved diet. He will be a good looking, sturdy dog.
He walks well on a leash with no pulling or lagging. He doesn't react to other dogs, bicycles, or people. He is only mildly interested in treats but seems to like to play with a ball, chasing and retrieving, or chewing. He loves attention and likes to be petted and handled. He doesn't appear to know any obedience commands, but is attentive and tries to figure out what you want him to do.
Kyle would be a great addition to an active household. He would probably learn obedience or some other dog sport quickly and do well if given a chance.
For more information on Kyle, please contact Berkeley Animal Care Services, ask for No. A011474, in Kennel 1:

Luci, 1 yr old, spayed female - NC
WHAT A HAPPY GIRL
Adoption Fee: $250 to help cover her expenses
Luci loves playing with the other malinois here and enjoys being with you. She is started in her obedience. Has a good sit, down and leave it command. She is not a 100% on her come command but close. She enjoys playing search games for fun and may do well with tracking or agility for fun.
She is a little shy when she first meets someone but warms up very quickly. She has enjoyed playing with children 10 and older. I have not had her with children under 10 but I would think she would be fine with dog savvy children 6 and up.
She enjoys playing fetch and has a decent retrieve.
She loves jumping over jumps and is a fast girl who loves to please. Luci is both food and toy motivated. She likes to tug and has a nice loss on a tug.
Luci loves playing in water and enjoys a baby pool.
Luci will require a fenced in yard. We are looking to place her in NC but would consider the right home outside of NC.
If placed close we would continue to help train her at no charge as long as you can bring her to us. Arrangements on continued training with us would be made at the time of adoption.
Luci will make someone a very good playful energetic companion. She does not have the temperament to be a working dog and will not be placed as working dog.
For more information on Luci, please contact:
NC Malinois Rescue.

Mitz, 8 mo old male, FL
Mitz (Mitzvah) is an adorable, 8 month old (born March 2007) rascal.
He is high energy, with strong prey and food drives. He is crate trained, has a bigger more open day crate and an airline-type crate where he sleeps in my room. Mitz was brought to Florida from NC with a broken right front leg and notched tip of right ear and left with us. Our wonderful orthopedic vet has pronounced his leg good as new. We believe he was kept outside because he drinks from Bromeliads and loves hanging outdoors - but he is definitely an inside dog and loves being with his foster family. He loves to "help" me cook by lying directly under my feet when I am at the sink or stove. Mitz is a totally sweet puppy who has the typical Malinois "mouthiness" ("devil-dog" "piranha puppy" is more like it!) We agreed to foster him because there was no where else for him to go.
We have had him neutered, he is on heartworm, flea & tick prevention, and is up to date on all shots, and is 99% housebroken.
Mitz would do very well in a home with another playful dog and a nice big yard. We think he is a herder, because he likes to herd his toys and a huge yoga ball. He LOVES to play with other dogs and is going to be a great running buddy when his leash training is done. (He is in obedience classes – reward based – and he is doing great. (I don't agree, but the trainer calls him Mellow Mal.) The notched ear stands up but the left ear flops most of the time. He makes us laugh: He gets the zooms and runs all over the house with his butt tucked under, really fast. He cocks his head and furrows his little brow when he is curious about a sound or something we're doing. And because we reward him for going in his kennel, and in hope of a treat, he runs into his kennel and turns to look at us to see if he did well.
We love Mitz very much, but we have no yard and work full time so he stays alone for up to nine hours, which is totally unfair to this wonderful pup. We were not ready for a dog at all, much less a puppy, and we are used to lab/retriever type dogs. So we do not have the time, energy or patience that this sweetheart needs and deserves. We're doing our best, but he needs a different home.
For more information on Mitz, please contact Pamela.

Piper, Age not provided, spayed female, OK
Piper was a neglect/cruelty case & so skinny her rescuers didn't know she was pregnant!
Piper is around 4 years old. Spayed. Current on shots. Is on Heartworm medication. Loves kids. She will sit on command and will also shake hands. Gives kisses. She is not cat friendly at all. She is very hyper and runs off her weight. She had a toe injury before coming into rescue and lost her toe nail. She hops on that foot from time to time but vet says it is fine. She loves to play with her pups. However, I am not comfortable letting her in with the general group in the exercise yard. Piper was a neglect/cruelty case. She was skinny as a rail when she came in. She was so thin we could not tell she was going to have pups.
The last 3 pictures are of the pups. Their ears are down. The male has a funny ear thing. His ears will fold back onto his head. Looks really funny. Of the puppies, he is the sweetiest. Has more of his Mom's personality. The 3 girls are more aloof but warms up to you after a bit.

Shiloh is a strikingly handsome, 70 lb, year-old Malinois/German Shepherd mix
He is exceptionally intelligent, sensitive, and alert, and he has the ability to become a wonderful companion dog as he is extremely devoted. Currently, Shiloh is attending obedience classes. He loves working, and from all indication, he is an excellent candidate for advanced obedience training and competitive canine sports. While he is with his foster mom, he will continue his obedience training.
Shiloh needs a home where he can be active with his owner. He requires exercise, play, and a great deal of structure. In his foster home, he lives with both dogs and cats, and he is house and crate trained. He is an ideal candidate for an experienced dog owner who is familiar with the breed and has the time to devote to his continued training and socialization.
Shiloh is being adopted through SMART Rescue. For info on adopting Shiloh please contact SMART.
