- Q: What is RSS?
- RSS is a method that keeps you up to date, with the latest content from any website that generates a feed when updated (BBC, CNN, CNet News, etc.), without having to visit the website constantly to check for new content.
The Malinois Rescue website will now be generating RSS feeds for the convenience of its visitors. Choose the region or website information from the above list that you are interested in updates for.
- Q: What does this means for you, our prospective malinois adopter and visitors?
- By subscribing to the feed for the region nearest you, your feed reader will receive and deliver to you an abbreviated version of that added content. If you are interested in learning more a link back to the new content will be provided in each RSS update notice you receive.
- Q: Why should I use a feed reader vs just visiting the website?
- RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a type of file, residing on an internet server, that will be updated at the time the website is updated.
- Your Feed Reader will receive notification of the update without you having to visit the website. This means you save time and only need to visit when an item of interest appears in your Feed
- RSS feeds provide a website visitor with a method of subscribing anonymously to the website feeds generated when the website or blog is updated.
- Once subscribed, the visitors Feed Reader will automatically receive notification when the website or blog has been updated.
- If you currently receive notices that your favorite News websites have new articles to read then you are probably already using RSS Feeds.
- Q: Where can I find RSS Feed Readers?
- There are Feed Readers, or more appropriately News Aggregators, available to suit the needs of everyone. Some are free, some require purcahse, some provide web-based reading and some are downloads that can be installed as a plugin for your browser or desktop.
For Web based reading of feeds.
RSS feed readers allow the user to subscribe, read and display RSS feeds.
- Q: OK, I have a reader now so how do I subscribe to any feeds I am interested in?
- Follow the instructions particular to your reader, as each reader follows different procedures for adding feeds.
- It's possible with some to drag and drop the link, click and hold on the image while dragging, to a feed directly into your reader.
- With others you will have to visit the page with the rss feed link, right click on the link and select copy shortcut or link location, then return to your reader and paste the URL of the feed per the readers instructions.
- Some websites will provide reader specific subscribe links that all you have to do is click on the link to automatically have your reader subscribe to that feed.
- It is also possible that you will need to actually open the feed ifself, highlight the URL in the address bar, copy it and then return to your reader and paste that link into the reader.
For best results use the method recommended by your reader.
