Watch for updates. We'll post them as they come in.
Angel had her staples removed yesterday. All of a sudden I have a different dog living with us. She no longer needs to be crated most of the time. She has figured out how to jump up on our bed to snuggle. She is trying to play with Phoebe.
We are still trying to keep her under control but since she is a young mal this is extremely difficult. I would say her surgery was a huge success. She is no longer snarky when my dogs go near her crate and her choice of toys. She loves to give her people kisses. I think her new name will be Giddy as in Giddy Up Girl. The vet tech was amazed how happy she was when she came in to get her staples out.

Angel is a great little patient. She is still on pain medication so she sleeps alot. She is getting around quite well on her three good legs. When she goes out I have to keep reminding her that she can't go running around. She loves to give kisses when you put her leash on. This is a big improvement from the dog that would cower in the back of a crate when you got out a leash. She gladly goes back to her crate after she goes out. She is enjoying antlers and bones to chew on when she is awake.
Today I took off her cone and she has been very good about licking her incision. She tried once and I told her to stop and since then she has been good. I'll put it back on at bedtime just to keep her honest. Luckily I bought this handmade Elizabethan collar this summer. I've had to make some adjustments since it was meant for a Golden. She is much more comfortable than with the old plastic one. It acts like a pillow when she puts her head down. I'll have to figure out how to make them. We tried the blowup ProCollar but she could still get to her incision if she really tried.
The stitches come out on Wednesday so we will find out what's next.
Fri, Dec 23, 2011 Three Days Post Surgery
Angel is doing well. She spends most of her time in her crate except for bathroom breaks. When she goes out she is goes hopping around on three legs. If I let her she would go running around. Luckily we have a ramp in the garage so she doesn't have to be carried up and down any stairs.
She has a soft Elizabethan collar. Much more civil that the plastic one and she is tolerating it well. It works like a pillow when she puts her head down. She can eat and drink with it and doesn't run into things like dogs on the plastic versions do.

Angel is a 19-month old female Mal who needs hip surgery -- and your help. Angel was hit by a car last year and later started limping. She came into Rescue because her owners realized that they couldn't provide her with the intensive veterinary care and recovery environment that she would need for her injury to properly heal.
Angel has charmed everyone who has met her. Now that she is up to date on her shots and on pain medication for her hip, her need for surgery is the only thing standing in the way of Angel becoming a Great Malinois companion.
The vet has recommended a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) which is the same procedure used for hip dysplasia. The estimate for her FHO surgery is $1700.
With your help Angel will soon be turning her great focus toward such dog sports as rally or nose work. Angel just might be the next good therapy dog for a new owner. She loves to snuggle up with her people both male and female.
Angel's surgery will cost about $1700 dollars. She is a sweet 50 pound girl who Loves to Snuggle, has great focus on her people, loves her crate and has an off switch. We would like her to learn to play but until her hip is fixed we can't encourage her as it would be painful. "Please help her get a new pain free life and give her the opportunity to make a new family laugh and smile."
Any donations towards Angel's surgery will be greatly appreciated. Your contribution *today* for Angel will be used, as always with our special needs rescues, specifically to cover Angel's medical expenses.
ABMC Rescue tries very hard to provide treatment that will be successful and cost effective. Angel's treatment wasn't in the budget and is coming at the end of a year that has seen our rescue fund stressed and stretched to the max. Your support, to offset part of Angel's treatment, will help return Angel to a pain free life.
Thank You for helping Angel!
