His ideal home would be where his primary handler was a female

Other Household Members (human)

  • A single female or multiple female household would be ideal (Heaven for Denver)
  • An adult male in the household is probably possible, but he will need to be very patient & Malinois savvy
  • No toddlers.  Older, dog savvy children would be ok. Denver doesn’t understand how to play/get excited/etc without throwing his full body weight around like a bucking bronco

Other Animals

  • At this time - no other pets - Denver needs to be a “one & only”
  • Dog reactive - working on it & has shown a little progress, but has a very long way to go (he had a bad experience with a dog in his previous home’s neighborhood)
  • NO Cats - too much prey drive

The Awesome side of Denver:

Ball Drive

  • Insane level - ball is life (he is not very treat motivated, but he will do almost anything for the round squeaky thing)
  • Balls of choice - Kong Squeaky Balls & Jolly Ball soccer style balls
  • Has zero interest in frisbee, FYI

Hard Core Cuddler

  • Cuddle time is one of his favorite things
  • On the couch, on the bed, on the yoga mat (when foster mom is trying to keep her balance, haha!)

Kisses Galore

  • Adopter must be accepting of the fact that Denver loves to give lots of kisses, all over your face, & whenever he feels like it!

Completely Chill during nail trims

  • He is definitely the most relaxed & well behaved dog for nail trims
  • He actually gets excited, lays down on the floor & shoves his paws at me as soon as he sees me get the nail clippers out

House Manners / Crating

  • Crate - must be a traditional wire crate - he does perfectly fine in this type while I am at work - he stressed out and had accidents in more closed feeling crates
  • He has been left alone in the house for up to a little over an hour & he stays occupied with his stuffed Kong toys & does not disturb or attempt to destroy anything
  • He has never attempted to chew/destroy anything in the house (except his toys of course)
  • House trained - Yes - FYI, he has a strong marking instinct in new places (especially if there is another dog scent), his foster family has used belly bands for the first couple of times in new places as a precaution just in case (he is not bothered by the belly bands & does not try to remove them)
  • He rides very well crated in a car, never tried without the crate

Quirks & Opportunities

Bath Time

  • Denver is very uncomfortable with the idea of traditional bathtubs or showers (& he makes this feeling very clearly known)
  • He behaves well & is accepting of being bathed in an open space with a hose (we use our garage with a garden hose)

Excitement = Bull in China Shop

  • Denver is super affectionate & when you come home, he insists on expressing it through a crazy bouncy burst of energy (give him a moment to get it out of his system & he will chill out fairly quickly so he can get pets & taken out for play time - just do not bend over until his bouncing is done or you may risk your nose getting broken from impact)
  • He can be a little mouthy when his energy level (need to play) hits maximum - never any real pressure, just usual Maligator mouthiness

  • Denver’s biggest struggle in life & the root cause for all his opportunities is the fear/anxiety (his rough start in life has led him to be afraid of & worry about a lot). He needs someone that is willing to help him overcome his fears & realize that life can be wonderful & stress free. I personally believe that if someone can do this effectively for him, many of his “issues” will almost disappear.
