1/31/23 Update: Silver seems to have aggression towards men, so would do best in an all-female home.

10-month-old Silver lives up to her name with her very rare silver color and strong black mask.  She  is beautiful – definitely an unusual silver/gray color. But, she is certainly ALL Mal puppy!  Getting her to sit still is almost a miracle   She is a bit awkward – not adjusted to her long legs yet…   She has bonded very quickly,  and will bond quickly with anyone that spends time with her and gives her the love and attention she craves.

She is a bundle of ENERGY and very strong-willed!   Her basic training does seem to be pretty loose.  She responds to sit – for a few minutes. But, she does not run off when loose. Like most Mals, wants to make sure I am around when she is playing outside (in the mud since it has been raining) – which does not faze her. She has also become immediately comfortable in the house and wants to play, play, play!   I will work on her obedience training, among other things. She does recall when you whistle.

Silver has not been exposed to much in her young life but is up for any adventure with her person by her side. She is a typical active, loving, Velcro Malinois that needs a loving home that will set boundaries in a positive environment. She is in a house with other dogs and quickly tries to imitate them. She is shy with people and initially shows fear of other dogs but becomes friendly and wants to play if they are not a threat. If the other dog is aggressive her fear will make her reactive as well.  She is housebroken and crate trained, although she prefers to be stay loose in the house while inside.

She likes toys but is still learning about them so has medium toy drive. She has shown no food aggression and only appears to have a medium food drive.  Her drive is to please and be with her person – that is what motivates Silver.  No cats or small children.

12/12/22 – Notes from Foster Home during the first week:

  • Sliver bonded quickly and didn’t look back
  • Silver loves to sit in your lap or right next to you when she settles down
  • She is still in that awkward puppy stage, especially with her long legs and can run into you or anything else when she is not looking
  • She will run to her person when she is afraid for protection
  • She loves water and any puddle she can find is great for zoomie play. Loves the shower!
  • Once she learned what a “doggy door” was she loves it – she goes in and out just because she thinks it is fun
  • She loves car rides, but wants the window open for air
  • She is learning what stairs are and is still a bit leery
  • She likes to be chased during play with other dogs and she will play tug – but still learning how to play appropriately
  • Working on basic obedience, she knows sit, down and she is very good at recall – but still needs work on other commands
  • She is somewhat mouthy – like most any young Mal, but quickly takes correction
  • She was initially taught to chase 4-wheelers, so has shown interest in cars driving by – but responded to verbal correction immediately
  • Silver currently lives with 3 other dogs, 2 of which are Malinois, and has met several neighborhood dogs and done well with introductions.
  • Her biggest notable issue is pushy behavior and rough play with other dogs, which can cause a reaction and in turn trigger aggressive behavior. This definitely needs to be worked on.
