Roda is a very nervous girl who needs someone with a lot of patience. She is somewhat fearful of new people, new dogs, and new situations. However, she does eventually warm up, but it takes time. A daily routine, consistency, and a little trust-building will go a long way with this quirky girl. Crating during this transition period is necessary, as she doesn't know how to act, but feels safe in her crate.

Roda will do best in a home with at least one other dog to play with, preferably her size or larger, with lots of energy, as once she gets amped up, it's game on!

Still coming out of her shell, Roda has a very sweet, affectionate side. But as with any Malinois, left to her own devices, she will find trouble to get into - like shredding various household items - and this is why crating is so important. She also likes to sneak into my room and sleep on the bed.

While it seems Roda prefers women, she does well with men who speak softly to her. She isn't fond of loud noises, she likes everything to be fairly low-key.

Note: While Roda is fine for the most part with other dogs, and even enjoys their company, Roda should not be placed with small or sick dogs, and should be supervised around other females. A large confident male dog in the home would work best.

11/15/2021 Update from Roda's current home:
Despite her quirks, Roda is an amazing dog. She loves to run, take walks, and play with our 4-yr old pit bull. Roda came to us with severe anxiety, so bad that at times, she would try to hide in the strangest places and not eat her food. She would get so scared (sometimes for no apparent reason) and start shaking so violently her teeth would chatter. Since she has been with us, she has really started to come into her own. She gets excited when we come home, will greet strangers more often than not, and almost never misses a meal. She plays tug-of-war with our other dog or gets excited and runs around with her ball in her mouth. Roda is on daily medication that I feel has been a huge help in getting her to where she is now. It is inexpensive and once she is settled 100%, she can start to be weaned off and be switched to an as needed basis. Unfortunately, our home  may be too overstimulating for her. We have a 3 yr old son, who by the way, Roda absolutely adores and lets him do anything with her. We also have a bird who, unfortunately, she wants to kill. No matter what we have done, if the bird gets excited, she focuses on her and tries to attack. We also have a couple of barn cats that she has tried to kill. When she gets anxious, our other dog tries to play with her and it distracts her for a fleeting moment and then seems to amp her back up. Roda would do wonderfully in a home where there is not as much stimulation, maybe just a child and an older dog, but nothing more than that. Her leash manners are excellent and her recall is lacking but slowly getting better.
