Hi! My name is Luke and I am looking for my forever home! Let me tell you a little about myself. First, I am obviously a handsome fella if I do say so myself. I am about 73 lbs, and they think I am 2-3 years old. I mean, just look at me! But I am not just a pretty face. I am smart as a whip, too. I didn’t know many commands when the rescue took me in, but I am a quick study and have learned a lot. I know sit, down, stay, shake, kennel (to go in my crate), release, and I am working on off (to get off of the furniture). I learned sit and shake in just a couple days! My foster mom says it is because I really like treats and food. I even like fruits and veggies! I have also learned that I have to take treats gently. I sometimes need a reminder because I get really excited! My foster family taught me that I have to sit and wait until they release me when they put my food down in my crate. As a matter of fact, I am pretty good at stay. I stay in my crate until released, and I sit and stay at the door to go outside (with a reminder) until released to go out. I will even ring the bell on the door to let my foster family know when I want to go outside! Smart, right?

I go into my crate when they say “kennel”, but it still isn’t my favorite place. I settle down after a couple minutes and I sleep in a crate in their bedroom at night, but I like to get up first thing in the morning so I can play with my foster sister, another Mal. Wrestling with her and running around the yard are definitely my favorite things to do! There are also these small furry things my foster mom calls cats and I am very interested in them but apparently, they don’t like when I run after them. I don’t try to bite them, but we are probably not meant to be roommates in my forever home. I like being out in the fenced in yard, but I have tried to get over the 5-foot fence a couple times when my foster mom was on the other side doing yard work. I just wanted to go see her! My foster parents keep an eye on me when I am out in the yard just in case. I am now learning to be a running partner and that seems fun, too! I am working on learning to heel and I will zig zag a couple times during our run, but we have only run a couple times so far, so I am still getting the hang of it. We ran 3.5 miles the other day! They are teaching me about toys and fetch, too. I had no idea why they kept throwing the ball and the frisbee at first, but it turns out if I run after it and bring it back, they will throw it again. Pretty neat!

My foster mom says I have a good off switch when I am in the house. I really love people and want to be close to them. She lets me get on a blanket on the couch and snuggle with her. I am a big fan. I like to get as close as possible to get all of the pets – I am told that I don't understand personal space because I try to climb into her lap! I am also a very good boy when it is time to get cleaned up. I don’t mind a bath or having my nailed trimmed with the Dremel as long as you bribe me with a few treats. My foster mom thinks it is because I had to be handled so much when I first came into rescue. See, I had a tail injury when I first arrived, and it ended up requiring amputation. But it doesn’t bother me at all! I think I have a pretty cute butt, don’t you?
