My foster mom told me she was writing my ‘story’ and I asked if I could help...

Hi!  My name is Denver and I am currently located in Pennsylvania.

I am a very handsome 2yr old neutered male endowed with svelte athleticism and drive.  I am brilliant and learn quickly. (Did I tell you I am modest too?).

I was rescued from an unhappy situation where I was kept in a crate most of the time and wasn’t given the training and mental stimulation that a Malinois needs. I have been blessed to have a foster mom and dad that are patient and dedicated to teaching me how to interact appropriately with the world around me.

I LOVE the ball and will happily work for it.  My favorite ball is the Kong squeaky ball but we go through them quickly – I think the score is Denver 5, Kong squeaky ball 0. My foster mom is the best – she stuffs Kong toys for me when we come inside from playing and I happily settle down to work on them.

Although I enjoy my food, I’m not a big fan of training with food.  If you attempt to train with treats and I know you have the ball in your pocket, I can’t concentrate on anything but THAT BALL!

I have learned lots of behaviors like ‘Sit’, Wait’, ‘Shake’, ‘Down’, ‘Off’, and ‘Crate’.  My foster mom is working with me on following behaviors too and I am starting to ‘get it’: ‘Let’s Go’, ‘Easy’, ‘Leave It’, ‘Come’.

My foster mom experimented with several types of crates and I must say, I much prefer the wire crate to a fully enclosed crate when left alone while my family goes to work.  I also happily sleep in my crate as long as I can see my humans

I am a rock star when it comes to nail trims – I just lay there and don’t ever jerk my paw.  My foster mom says that I am the best dog she has ever had for nail trims - she gives me a small training treat after each clip to reinforce my rock star behavior. However, when it comes to baths, I am really picky about the method we use.  If mom tries to put me in the tub or shower, I am like a large fish on a hook and cannot be controlled but if she takes me out to the garage and uses a hose hooked to the sink, I’m cool with it.

My foster mom says I am SUPER affectionate.  I am so very bonded to her and cannot contain my exuberance when she gets home from work.  She says, I am true to my Malinois-ness and in my excitement, I sometimes body slam her when greeting her. She is working with me to teach me a gentler approach but sometimes love hurts

I definitely feel safer around women - men scare me.  I have started to warm up to my foster dad but it has been a slow process.  I will not be placed in a home with children, cats or other small animals.

I am uncomfortable around other dogs so I can’t help but be reactive when I see them out on a walk.  My foster mom has been trying to work with me on that as well as test me around other dogs while keeping me and the other dog safe but at this point, we feel that it is best that I go to a home where I would be the only dog.

As mentioned above, I am very athletic and could jump a short fence easily so for my safety, I need to go to a home with a 6ft fence or taller.

My foster mom says I am a diamond in the rough and that I have so much potential. I am praying to find a forever home where my family will continue the awesome work my foster mom and dad have been doing, giving me the structure, training, and physical and mental stimulation I need so that I can blossom into the dog I was meant to be.
