Taurus is an approximately one year old neutered male.  The first thing everyone notices are his striking good looks and his beautiful light colored eyes.  This is because he is a "blue" - a dilute recessive gene that is not favored in Mals.  However, he is still a very handsome boy!

His exact background is uncertain.  We do know that he came from a shelter in Florida. It was quite clear that he had spent a significant amount of time of his short life in a crate, as his feet were splayed and he had absolutely no muscle tone whatsoever. As such, he does have an aversion to crates. However, he does well being gated off in a room for containment and also rides great in a crate in the car. He also sleeps in a carte at night with no issues.   It was also apparent that no one ever spent any quality time with this poor boy- he didn't know basic commands (I tried 3 languages!), he didn't know what stairs were, he didn't have boundaries, etc.  All that has changed in the 3 months that he has been here.

Taurus is a very active boy, so if you are a couch potato, this is not the dog for you. He goes on two 2 mile walks daily, plus training time and time running on our farm.  He is the type of dog who definitely likes his patterns and routines.

He walks quite well on a leash (better than any of the resident dogs! LOL) Taurus is not bothered by bicycles, strollers or motorcycles.  He knows  sit, stay, and of course off. Although that last command definitely needs some reminders LOL. Taurus is housebroken and is a very clean dog. He likes being with his people, but he’s also content to lie down and chew on a Kong toy. Taurus tends to be very protective of the home. He is aloof with strangers and takes some time to warm up to new people, but once you are in his circle, he is devoted to you.

As far as dog sports, he would do well in nose work, tracking and Barnhunt. He has tracked moles in my yard, dug them up and caught them!  So he definitely has a very keen nose! He may also do well in agility for the casual competitor. He did not seem to have the sustained focus or drive for serious competition.

He is food driven and has some toy drive, particularly for ball tug toys. He will engage in a game of tug but not for a long duration.

Taurus has high prey drive, so he is not recommended for a home with small children, cats or small dogs.   He gets along well with dogs his own size, but can play a bit rough at times.  However, he reads dogs well and backs off.  He must go to a home with a secure, fenced in yard. He did scale my 5 foot fence to try to get into my horse paddock. He can also become a bit mouthy when he gets excited, and we are still working on curtailing this behavior.

Taurus is super sweet and loves being with his people. He loves any form of attention.   He acts more like a 4 month old puppy, and that must be kept in mind while training him.
