Ernie likely gave it his all, but it is impossible to save your owner from a house fire when you are tied to a tree outside. Thankfully, he was rescued when first responders arrived and notified animal control officers that he was in need. Ernie is still young and is untainted by his past . He enjoys other dogs , and given time to make sure you are an acceptable human, he will enjoy you, too. Ernie is doing well on leash walks with his foster humans, plays well with the other dogs in their home, crates well, and is working on basic obedience . After just two weeks, he can sit, stay (a few seconds) until called for his meal, and is working on down. He had a few house training mishaps when he first arrived, but he is now reliably going outside to relieve himself. Ernie may also be assisting the backyard chickens in their escape plans , but since he is operating in stealth mode, this assumption is unproven. Ernie pleads the fifth! Unbelievably, no chickens have been massacred during their unplanned excursions. Maybe Ernie just wants all creatures to experience the joys of his newly found freedom. His fosters are also testing him with the neighborhood cats while out on walks. So far, he is mesmerized by their presence, but he is not staring at them with hungry eyes. While this is the case, we are not yet ready to mark him as a cat-safe Maligator.

Ernie will not be placed with young children as he does affectionately give Malinois kisses and corrective herding nips if you come in too hot and fast. He’s only reminding you to mind your manners! Ernie, like most humans, would like a polite introduction before you invade his personal space. 

Ernie does have one major flaw. He feels the need to protect you from the ceiling fan. That thing might fly off the ceiling and attack you if he does not bark and scare it into staying put!

If you need your ceiling fans contained or feel the need to venture out and  embrace life’s happiest moments, Ernie is your guy!
