Meet ABMR Casey!  She is an 8-month old spayed Belgian Malinois.  We know she’s gorgeous, but Casey needs a specific home. She is coming around well, but she is NOT a social butterfly of a puppy. She takes a significant amount of time to trust new people and while she is not an aggressive dog, she needs a home with dog savvy handlers who will take the time she needs to adjust to new people, and not push her boundaries.  Once you earn her trust, Casey can be sweet and affectionate, but not as “velcro” as some Malinois.  Meaning, she won’t follow you into the bathroom!!!

Casey loves other dogs but does not take social cues well — she is an up-in-their-face kind of player. Would recommend a home without a strong female but absolutely she needs another confident, social dog in her life to learn from. She does wonderful the dogs in her foster home and is neutral to dogs in public.. She can also be a bit possessive of toys and likes to snatch things and play keep away (including socks, cell phones and hose nozzles). She is also a digger so whoever adopts her needs to understand the use of training AND management to prevent bad behavior.  A fenced-in yard is recommended for her, with supervision.

Casey is a dog that would excel with appropriate balanced training.  She can be pushy but she handles correction well but it must be fair.  Too harsh or over-correction and she will shut down.

Casey has traveled with her foster extensively and has done great traveling in the car, in hotels and Airbnbs. She can be a bit barky when she’s crated in the house and she thinks it’s her turn to be out but she is easily corrected.  Overall, she is environmentally solid!

Casey has medium toy drive and solid food drive, both of which could be built with the right handler.

No kids unless they are very dog savvy (and the home will crate her when other comes over). She would not appreciate the loud environment or being pushed too quickly to interact.  She has not been around cats, but has some prey drive and would probably chase them.

Casey is a fun little dog and her foster just adores her and feels she has a lot of potential in the right home but the wrong home could set her back significantly.
